NSK is one of Japan’s oldest metalworking companies. In the late 19th century, Yamaguchi Takehiko visited the USA and observed nail factories in operation. Inspired, he decided to open similar facilities in Japan. In 1916, Takehiko acquired Nippon Seiko Limited, transforming it into NSK (Nippon Seiko Kabushiki-gaisha – Japanese Precision Mechanics Company). That same year, NSK began mass production of rolling bearings, becoming the first Japanese manufacturer of such components.
Japan’s rapidly growing industry had previously relied on imported bearings, creating a high demand for locally produced components. NSK quickly expanded, supplying bearings to various industries.
After World War II, NSK maintained its focus on bearing production.
