The History of Waeco
Founded in 1974 in Emsdetten, Germany, Waeco was the brainchild of brothers Theodor and Peter Wähning, who designed a refrigerator powered by batteries. This innovation led to the establishment of Waeco International GmbH. Over the years, the founders refined their products and explored new ideas, initially creating innovations primarily for campers and yachts. Eventually, these solutions became popular among car and truck drivers, representing a touch of luxury in their vehicles.
Waeco expanded its "mobile kitchen" concept by introducing portable refrigerators, coffee makers, kettles, and microwaves, designed for use during long car journeys. In 1981, the company partnered with Italian air conditioning manufacturer Diavia, enhancing its expertise and expanding into training workshops and improving logistics for faster spare part deliveries.
In 2007, Waeco became part of the Dometic Group, a company spun off from the renowned Electrolux corporation.
