SHW Performance: lightweight brake discs as an original part
SHW, as a pioneer of the ventilated brake disc, is one of the oldest industrial companies in Europe with a proud history dating back to 1365. In 1964, SHW participated with Porsche in the development of the first ventilated brake disc.
Today, SHW lightweight brake discs are part of the standard specification of the most reputable vehicle manufacturers.
In particular, composite brake discs in the patented pin design set the standard for low weight and performance or braking comfort in extreme situations.
Under the new SHW Performance brand, we are also offering our high-quality OE brake discs for the first time in the independent aftermarket.
SHW Performance – a new brand with a long tradition
Together with Porsche SHW, in 1964 developed the first internally ventilated brake discs for the Porsche 911, which in 1966 were fitted to the new 911 S. In 1993, together with BMW M, another milestone was set, developing the first brake disc with a mandrel for motorsport, which then went into series production. Since then, this cooperation has continued, so that brake discs are installed in many other Porsche and BMW models, including the Porsche 911 Turbo, GT3 and Cayenne, as well as in all BMW M models. In addition, Bentley, Maserati and Lamborghini complete SHW's customer base.
Why should SHW be the first choice when it comes to replacing brake discs? Because brakes are one of the few things that ensure a safe, secure and comfortable return home.
Patented SHW PIN design: a necessary step into the future of braking
SHW's seat post design is a two-piece, fully floating brake disc design. The cast iron friction ring is permanently connected to the lightweight aluminium cup by means of fully floating stainless steel mandrels that are cast in the assembly during the manufacturing process. Unlike other manufacturers, SHW moves the pins in the friction ring from the inside, which leads to a huge improvement in cooling performance and is patented by SHW.
This extensive design offers a lot of advantages. Among other things, it is possible to reduce weight per disc by 2.5 kg, which contributes to the reduction of CO emissions2 . Reduced thermal load and improved performance thanks to the floating friction ring, which, among other things, ensures noise prevention, further emphasizes the quality of the brake disc. Positive features include low brake atrophy, increased durability and significantly improved braking comfort.
The design is complemented by the optimal design of the cooling channel for structural strength even under extreme loads, optimized heat dissipation and for better noise suppression.
Brake discs of OE quality
SHW brake discs are designed and manufactured to meet, and where possible exceed, the high expectations of high OEM standards.
High-quality materials, advanced development and production techniques, high processing standards, strict quality control procedures and extensive testing are just some of the important foundations required for the production of SHW Premium brake discs.
Another notable advantage of SHW is that all stages of production take place in-house. With its own R&D department, metal foundries and automated machining centres, SHW takes care of every stage of production from design to delivery.
